Looking to Escape? 'Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled'

“Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.” -- NKJV
“But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.” – ESV
““But keep on the alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.” – NASB
“Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.” -- KJV
--Luke 21:36

The following is the author's opinion. Prayed upon, researched and given in good faith.

Let’s talk about escaping

Escape is one of those words that conjures different visual in different minds. For the ‘dictionary’ definition please visit here: https://www.dictionary.com/browse/escape?s=t

We’ve all had things we have wanted to escape from and many of them can be quite scary. People have been creative in how they formulate their escape depending on what they are escaping, and some are successful. Others? Not so much and many of those become a fatal statistic. Not wishing to delve too far into this topic merely wanted to make this one point: No matter what we are trying to escape, except for one reality – self-annihilation --  most who try to escape may succeed at distancing themselves from the threat but they still remain here on earth. Sadly, Earth is figuratively growing ever smaller as technology via surveillance even at a private and personal level encroaches upon us via our phones, our computers, and other devices designed in part to monitor our every moment. One company wants to have their surveillance product snoop on us in every room, including the bedroom. Why? Oh, you know, in case you have a hard time sleeping they can recommend solutions; of course, from their bevvy of advertisers because?  Making $’s is how they bring in their profitable bottom line. So, you just want to escape it all. With the right connections no matter your actions to remain incognito, anyone with funds and familiarity with the internet can find you. There is only ONE who can save you from this earth and the manifold woes that cause people to want to escape it and 1 Thess 4:17 tells us the answer: “Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.”

What is different about Jesus’s statement in Luke 21:36? This: He tells us to pray that we will have the strength to get away from all the things foretold by Christ to come upon the earth, the very place we have no choice but to live. Yet, if we succeed in escaping, according to Jesus we wind up, no longer on earth but standing before Jesus, our High Priest [Hebrews 4:14]. This may come as a shock to many people but some actually hold as their faith that Christians will be ‘caught up’ prior to the troubles of Luke 21 [or Matt 24-25 and Mark 13] because Jesus and his apostles taught that we would be kept from the wrath or time of wrath. [See Rev 3:10; 1 Thess 1:10; 1 Thess 4:17; 1 Thess 5:9 – more. See table below] So who are those needing to have strength that they may escape? It is thought by the same individuals who believe the Church will be caught up – some of those who have been left behind on earth will respond to the absence of those ‘caught up’ [or commonly referred to as ‘raptured’] and will be able to quickly understand what happened. Knowledge or understanding of what happened may be all they need to convert to Christianity, or to finally become born again. Others will respond to the evangelism of that tribulation time and others will simply deny deny deny despite the horrific evidence facing them via prophetic tough times upon them [Rev chapters 6 through 19].  Primarily, it is believed by those who hold to the Biblical event of the ‘catching away; the caught up or the rapture, GOD’s plan for Israel will move into its last phase and they will be the ‘chosen ones/elect ones’ referred to in Matt 24:22 [and of course Luke 21:36] for whom this great time of tribulation will be terminated by GOD at HIS chosen point in time through his SON, King of Kings, upon HIS second coming – or landing as it were, in Israel.

As you look over the different translations at the beginning of this post - please consider this: It is the same scripture through the lens  of different publishers. There is a key distinction, language wise, between the KJV/NKJV and the other translations. However, in the NKJV the word "worthy" is footnoted and refers the reader to the NU Text which uses the word 'strength' for'worthy'. They have very different meanings in English. Wanted to broaden the undesrstanding accodingly. There is no 'wrong' translation. It is merely a case of using a word in English that addresses the nuance of the word translated to be 'worthy' from the Greek in Strongs #G2611. Find out why some translations have worthy others such as strength in the ESV and success in the NWT.

Now, ask yourself, how can you escape this? Glad you asked. Let’s look at a few relative scriptures. But before we do, let’s be clear; when we speak of escape each person has their own understanding and perhaps even word association. However, there are many forms of escape so narrowing it down to the escape from Earth – alive, is the topic for this post. Please understand as a Christian your passport out of the time of wrath is your faith/belief in Jesus as your Savior. Having been born again as a Christian your passport is acceptable because it is the blood of the risen Christ and the grace and mercy shown to you by GOD because CHRIST’s innocent self-sacrificed blood has been applied to you that puts you on the Heaven bound path whenever your ‘twinkling’ change happens.

Below, is a table with verses that deal with substantiating 1]The Catching away, the being ‘caught up’ or the ‘escaping’; 2]The Wrath of GOD is not for those who are caught up; 3] Why some who consider themselves religious or spiritual may be left behind. [See 2 Thess 2:1-12]

But, may this be of great courage and comfort to your hope in Christ: “After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.” – Rev 4:1 --The church is removed

Here a few verses taken from the Bible that sort of sets the framework:
Bible Verses
Text
1 Cor 15:51-53
Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed—
in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

1 Thess 1:10
and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.
1 Thess 2:19
For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming?
1 Thess 3:13
so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.
1 Thess 4:13-18
But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.
For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
Therefore comfort one another with these words.

I Thess 5:1-9
But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you.
For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.
For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.
But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.
You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.
Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night.
But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.
For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

2 Thess 2:6-8
And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time.
For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He  who now restrains will do so until He  is taken out of the way.
And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.

2 Thess 2:11
And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie,
Col 3:4
When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
Hebrews 9:28
so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
John 14:1-3
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.
“In My Father’s house are many mansions;  if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

Jude 1:24-25
Now to Him who is able to keep you  from stumbling,
And to present you faultless
Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,
To God our Savior,
Who alone is wise,
Be glory and majesty,
Dominion and power,
Both now and forever.
Amen.

Phil 3:20-21
For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.

Titus 2:13
looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,
Rev 3:10
“Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.
Rev 3:7
“And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, ‘These things says He who is holy, He who is true, “He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens” [Isa 22:22]
Rev 4:1
After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.”

Be HAPPY

As our ‘meteorological’ seasons change from the bright and colorful to the fading and loss of most colors we can be happy for so many reasons not least of which is the returning season of spring in the next year. REMEMBER: “To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven.” – Ecc 3:1

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” – Rom 15:13

Thinking out loud

There are all kinds of ‘happy’. There is the giddy happy when you just attained some goal you worked hard to achieve. There is the heart is warmed happy that comes from doing something for someone spontaneously and seeing their joy at your impromptu charity – remember: More joy in giving than receiving. There is the everything-in-this-moment-seems-perfect happy. There is the contented happy when you are with your family for fellowship and laughter and light heartedness is the general spirit of the moment. And, there is the borrowed from the future happy we sometimes call hope. This is the happy through hope that keeps us going when we face tough times. King Solomon helped to dissect life in its many encounters. He called them seasons. For everything, in his experience, there is a season, a time for every purpose under the heaven. In fact, there is a time to weep and a time to laugh. Sometimes those two things are not mutually exclusive.

Many in today’s world lack the very necessities of life and happy [a subjective thought sometimes] is not an emotion they may feel except in being grateful for what they do have and of course the hope their lives will improve. Others simply lack even the understanding that their lives could be different or even how they see their lives now or in the future. They may be morose which eclipses the light of life on its way to finding joy. Some must go on an expedition in search of joy. ß This can be a happy season in and of itself.

For the Christian, should we place more importance or desire @ happy or @ joyous? You may be pausing a moment asking what’s the difference? A bunch. Joy is genuinely linked to peace, mostly peace we try to grant or make for ourselves. That peace is fragile when we think in terms of being personally responsible for our own. We cannot control all things and surely the best-intentioned effort to make and live in peace is shattered when unexpected circumstances interrupt our ‘peace’ and consequently our ‘joy’. But, there is a peace and joy that we can have that we have no control over and endures despite the unexpected and often tragic circumstances that visit every one some time or another. That peace bears fruit in joy and is the rooted place in our being, our soul, our heart, our spirit, that helps to bloom the sense of ‘happiness’ we walk around with most of our days. Where do we find that peace? How do we attain it and how do we keep it? First, lets define the peace being discussed here.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. “ – Phil 4:6-7   A whole post could be dedicated to this one set of scriptures. But, for this post, and regarding where do we find peace and how do we attain it, we get it from GOD through Jesus Christ. How we get it is laid out in 1 Corinthians the 12th chapter. In essence, a born-again Christian receives ‘gifts’ through the manifestation of the Holy Spirit. One of those gifts is faith and with that faith and the presence of the Holy Spirit the evidence of that indwelling or manifestation is called ‘fruitage’ and we find a list of those in Galatians 5:22-23. And surprise! PEACE and JOY are listed!

Anxiety is the enemy of joy. See above, ‘be anxious for nothing’. Jesus took it a step further and practically: ““Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” – Matt 6:34     Jesus focused the crowd he was speaking to, and by default anyone who reads HIS words now, on spending time seeking the kingdom of GOD and HIS righteousness and the consequences of that endeavor results in all the foregoing things being added to you. [““Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?” – Verse 25]

Does not the prospect of just surrendering our ‘self-control’ to GOD through Jesus and the pursuit of the kingdom of GOD and HIS righteousness bring joy already?

Here is a list of scriptures you may find helpful along with concerted prayer and supplication to GOD to understand all things ‘joy’. Remember, joy is a fruitage of the Holy Spirit. Be sure to pray for Holy Spirit to increase your joy and your awareness of joy in your life.

Some scriptures to research

Please look at the context of these scriptures. It helps to grasp what is said in each one. Again, joy comes in drawing close to GOD and HIS SON in prayer.
Psa 5:11 “But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You
Psa 16:11 “You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore
Psa 32:11 “Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous; And shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
Psa 43:4 “Then I will go to the altar of God, To God my exceeding joy; And on the harp I will praise You, O God, my God. [To be so  happy you feel like singing/composing/playing praise]
Ecc 5:20 “For he will not dwell unduly on the days of his life, because God keeps him busy with the joy of his heart.” [verses 18-20 complete context]
Hab 3:18 “Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.” [verse 17 discusses adversity to which vs 18 is the response.]
Acts 13:52 “And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.”
Rom 15:13 “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Jude 1:24 “Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy”

May you be filled with the peace of GOD that surpasses all thought! May the peace and joy of GOD’s HOLY SPIRIT fill you and in abundance. When your life expresses the peace and joy outwardly people will ask, ‘How are you so happy?”

“You’re blessed when you get your inside world—your mind and heart—put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.” Matt 5:8 Message Bible

Does the Universe Guide Your Life?

Theme

“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this:
He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.”
– Psa 37:4-6

Query:

Why do some insist the Universe has some micromanaging influence or design on their lives?
Have you noticed how the culture is now pushing the idea that the ‘universe’ is somehow responsible, for better or worse, for everything that happens to a person? So, if we took the verse above and predicated it on the ‘universe’ somehow being influential in all things it would appear as this:

Take delight in the universe, and the universe will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the universe; trust in the universe and the universe will do this: Universe will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.

Surely, no rational person would even consider the universe (pick a definition: ‘the totality of known or supposed objects and phenomena throughout space; the cosmos; macrocosm. the whole world, especially with reference to humanity: a world or sphere in which something exists or prevails’ [– online dictionary.com]) could literally give you the delight of your heart or if you trusted the universe your ‘righteous reward’ would somehow ‘vindicate’ you? Righteousness? How can the universe impugn anything to you? How can the universe itself vindicate you? Better question; besides enthralling, impressing, mesmerizing, exciting or being amazed -- a person looking at the universe – would you recognize your righteousness as a reward while gazing up? But, understand, many do believe GOD, the actual CREATOR of the universe, can in fact give you the desires of your heart, recognize your desire for righteousness and then reward you and most definitely vindicate you with absolute clarity!

Why are some embarrassed to admit they believe in GOD and HIS Almighty Sovereignty in their lives?
The culture in the west today has placed increasing pressure on people to shy away from any public admission of a belief in the GOD of the Bible, or the GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, also the GOD of the Hebrews. Many may have an absolute faith in the GOD of the Bible and within their believing circle of family and friends, they exhibit the same palpable belief as their peers. Yet, in the public, their restraint is most strong to be acceptable. For instance, while noting they are blessed they might use the ‘universe’ as a replacement for GOD. Some use ‘the divine’ or ‘my deity’ but both of those may require further elucidation to the listening mind. Thus, ‘the universe’ seems to be an acceptable GOD replacement reference which conveys some safe sense of neutrality – without seemingly denying GOD.

Why do some not want to offend those hearing not knowing whether another believes in the GOD of the CREATED universe?
Again, let us turn to one of the most powerful – though not GODly – influencers today: Culture! There is an understandable hesitancy to assume a stranger, or even someone who you know but not well enough to assume has a belief in the GOD of the Bible. There have been serious consequences to those who live their faith ‘out loud’ so-to-speak like the loss of employment, friends, some family members, their standing in groups, community events, school, and other public places. But you have to ask, is this a battle you fight to win or side step and live to fight another day? The bottom line for a believer is attribution, is testimony, is sharing the gospel. If someone asks of you to share why you seem to be so blessed [and they may even say by the universe] how will you answer? Remember, the universe is the created not the Creator.

Why do some not believe completely in the GOD of the Bible but believe in a power outside themselves, sometimes referred to as a ‘higher power’?
That is perhaps the easiest question to answer. The very UNIVERSE can have an awe-inspiring affect on some simply by peering into it from a powerful telescope, or just a clear night time sky. The Apostle Paul actually wrote under inspiration of the Holy Spirit: “They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.” – Romans 1:25

It seems, that a little place way inside of us where we are strongly inclined to seek and worship GOD is strong enough to cause a person to believe in something ‘bigger’ or ‘higher’ than themselves thus the belief in a ‘higher power’. What is the positive about this person? With the Holy Spirit and logical reasoning this person can be led to know that the GOD of the Bible exists and has a very personal interest in all of us. They  recognize the positives in their life and know it is not of their own making. If they can believe in some undefined ‘higher power’ they can be persuaded to believe in GOD, via the Holy Spirit and of course, the grace, our Lord Jesus made available to us by way of HIS torturous death and resurrection. If you know someone who believes in a ‘higher power’ ask for definition of the higher power. By listening you may be led by the Holy Spirit to discuss how the GOD of the Bible is far more definable than a nebulous ‘higher power’.

Do they say ‘the universe is trying to tell me something’ with emptiness not believing in anything but wanting to appear as though they do?
There is a segment of society/culture that easily seeks to fit in by being disingenuous – they have no belief whatsoever, or have not a clue about anything spiritually speaking. They have heard the idea of ‘the universe’ as having some perceived ethereal quality.  They may appear to connect to a ‘believer’ or to seek acceptance by someone so they will borrow the phrase ‘the universe’ as a means of fitting in. We’ve all met someone like this. They are eager to be accepted and sort of take on the persona of the person/s they want to connect with and easily morph into those individuals. Yet, their lack of commitment or conviction belies their true character. This person still needs to be introduced to the GOD of the Bible. A question as to how ‘the universe’ has any influence over the person could initiate a true self-examination. If they are comfortable with the conversation introducing them to the GOD of the Bible is literally a life saver.

Is seeking direction and understanding of the universe a necessary pursuit for a Christian? Do you know someone who believes this as a means of philosophy or worldview? Without getting to deep into the woods, the answer may be yes. To be better informed simply Google ‘Signs from the Universe’ . Believers of this worldview advocate for their philosophy; they explain it with such notions as Synchronicity. Is it okay for a Christian to pursue this thinking? Answer: Do you believe GOD is SOVEREIGN in every second of the believer’s life. Christians understand each person has a purpose in life; they understand there are no coincidences when led by the Holy Spirit and they understand a born-again believer has the HOLY SPIRIT within themselves to assist them in all things in their lives. The Christian’s life is not about fate, synchronicity, chance or live and let live. It follows the Sovereign plan for their life and seeks daily guidance from the Holy Spirit, primarily in a daily reading and meditation of GOD’s Word, the Bible.

We are blessed to live in a time when science has effectively gazed into the deepest of known space and has mapped out and explained our universe. It is inclusive of the sky/heavens above, the Earth, the deepest core of the Earth, the oceans/seas and of course, right down to the microcosm of everything in the heavens, on the earth and in the waters of the Earth. One can literally zoom way out or way in and still be looking at a wonderous universe. For that, give thanks to GOD the Creator and seek to be influenced by HIS HOLY SPIRIT.

Summation: Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,  your vindication like the noonday sun.” ßYour vindication as a believer will be crystal clear . Do not be sidetracked by those who have chided you, punished you, cursed you for loving and believing in the GOD of the Bible!
